The Sabrina Smart Operation has won GOOD DESIGN 2013

February 12, 2014

We’re happy to announce you that our Sabrina Smart Operation has won GOOD DESIGN 2013. Founded in 1950, the Good Design Awards is the world's oldest and most important industrial design program organized annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. Submitted products are judged based on various factors such as innovation, new technology, materials used, structure, concept, and functions. Sabrina series is the fourth addition to the collaboration between Giugiaro Design and Okamura after Contessa, Baron (Okamura CP), and Luce (Luce also won the Award in 2011). The series has two sisters, older and original Sabrina Smart Operation which won the award and the younger sister, Sabrina Standard. What is the most notable about the series in common is its iconic back view with the ring structure. This part acts as both distinctive design and functional uniqueness. You can keep your correct S-shape posture on your back, and also bend rightward and leftward at the same time as the highlighted Sabrina experience. It is a great honor that Sabrina Smart Operation won the award out of over a thousand companies’ submissions in 48 countries.

10 products from Okamura Corporation won Good Design Award (Japan) this year

December 9, 2013

10 products from Okamura Corporation won Good Design Award this year. We have won 497 Good Design Awards so far over half a century since we first won in 1962. Good Design Award is Japanese comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system, operated by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. The system has its origins in the “Good Design Selection System” (known as the “G-Mark System”) instituted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan in 1957. Distinguished design experts examine the entries. These experts are selected from various industries for assessing the worthy of the Good Design Award. Whether product can bless and enrich society and people's lives through its design or not is the largest deciding factor. Seating

What Choral excites us the most is that it has 3,520 variations with many different types of back, leg, and fabric color. As its name says, the Choral chair harmonizes well with various work places. Sabrina series is now a new signature item of Okamura, consisting of two sisters, Sabrina Smart Operation and Sabrina Standard. Sabrina Smart Operation that launched ahead won the Award. The ring structure, an iconic design of the series is one whole part that acts both as distinctive design and functional uniqueness. Omnes is especially effective when used in an free address work place where many diverse workers are. No difficult adjustment is necessary and just sitting is all you need, as the Omnes chair automatically adjusts the reclining, depending on an occupant’s weight. Zart is a regular pleaser of our users. Even though you may already be very familiar with mesh, Zart will surprise you with its exceptional elasticity, as its three layer structure can also act as cushion-like comfortability.

Work Station and Panel System

When workers are so diverse, why can’t our office systems be as well? This is the background concept of developing Manifold, a total office system. With storage, monitor unit, panel and tray, Manifold can be fully tailor-made for any purpose of your work in any situation. White Line prompts our creative thinking without being overly formal. Table folding can be done in an instance with a lever, and storing when not in use is done in an instance. Vibrant colors not just help change your work scenes but also act as grouping. Zenac Panel Screen is easily employed in an open space. It will not occupy too much space as it has nesting legs. Deodorizer is built in and it offers better quality air for your working environment.

Laboratory and Health Care

All we cared in developing Karre was the highest comfortability and ease for the medical professionals who actually use this product in their busy and urgent work situations. Trays slide easily and also are layered depending on how this is used. As well as a standard cart type for going the rounds, the other type with monitor stand is also available which you can place a desktop computer. Divo is an IV stand that offers an extreme easy usability, also for the medical scenes. Ring shaped design in the middle is used as a handle, but also as a tray on which both patients and medical professionals can temporarily place small items. Leger is a fume hood that not just cares safety but also prompts intellectual productions required today. Leger’s stylish design enhances the researchers’ communications.

Okamura Grand Fair, Okamura Corporation’s largest company event, was held early November 2013

November 22, 2013

Okamura Grand Fair, Okamura Corporation’s largest company event, was held early November 2013, mainly for invited guests at Hotel New Otani at the heart of Tokyo. Okamura Grand Fair gathered over 9000 guests from both domestic and overseas. All through the Fair, we revisited the theme of the special presentation by Susan Cain back in May hosted by Okamura. With the main theme, Quiet Revolution, Okamura and Susan both agreed the importance of the right balance at any of our work places. Guests also enjoyed our presentation of the new products. The Sabrina Smart Operation Chair which first launched in Orgatec 2012 welcomed its younger sister, the Sabrina Standard Chair at this Fair which has high comfortability and lower price. The Sabrina series is our fourth addition to the collaboration with Giugiaro Design in Italy. An iconic back view of the Sabrina series is with the ring structure, one whole part which acts both as distinctive design and functional uniqueness. For any worker to shine, we will continue presenting many hints and solutions to your diverse working environment.

The Good Design Award is hosted by Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization, and it is structured for good designed products and it is the one and only comprehensive award in Japan. This year is the 55th since The Good Design Award was established and 1,112 products have been awarded amongst 3,162 entries.

Good Design Award overview
The Good Design Award is hosted by Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization and it is the comprehensive design award. Since established in 1957, it has been awarding to good designs for life, industrials and the entire society. “G-mark” is well recognized as a sign of good designs for over half a century.

Luce overview
LUCE, Multi-purpose Seating, is developed in collaboration with the Italian industrial design firm, Giugiaro Design. The Luce uses the technologies created for the Leopard that provide a perfect fit with your body throughout all postural changes from sitting to standing. Its “smart relaxation” mechanism absorbs most of the impact to your body when you sit down and provides a relaxing softness under you, regardless of your height or weight. This chair is particularly suitable for active work scenarios where you are required to stand up frequently and are rarely seated for a long time. In addition to its use as an ergonomic multi-purpose office chair, it is also an attractive item for the home. With its distinctive forward-leaning shape, the Luce was the product of research into improved seat-cradle design undertaken by a collaboration of Okamura, experts in advanced seating design, and OKI, specialists in robot applied technology.

The Okamura Corporation will exhibit its new concept in seating, the Leopard, at the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2009 in Chicago, USA, starting from June 15th, 2009. The Leopard is the product of collaboration with the Tokyo-based Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

The driving concept behind its revolutionary “Seat Cradle Design” was to simulate the way a parent holds a child in their arms. This led Okamura Corporation to fuse their advanced seating technology with OKI’s robot leg technology using mechatronics engineering to produce the Leopard. This chair mimics the behavior of human muscles to follow every change in the sitter’s posture, providing a superior fit to the body from sitting to standing and maximum ergonomic comfort. As a chair, the Leopard has a versatility which lends itself to many contexts where the relaxation of the sitter’s body is important.
